USB Star Projector Night Light: How 2-in-1 Mode Works
Almost every listing in this category says “2-in-1” somewhere. Very few explain what the second thing is. Here’s what you actually get.
Two lights, one body
A dual-mode lamp has two separate light sources inside it. One is a projector: a lens that throws a starfield or a galaxy onto the ceiling. The other is a plain warm LED that glows from the base, like a small bedside lamp.
One button cycles between them. They are not the same light dimmed — that matters, because it means the night-light mode stays steady and warm rather than being a faint version of a moving projection.
Why that combination is the useful one
The projection is the reason you buy it and the reason it gets put in a drawer. It’s wonderful for twenty minutes; it is not what anyone wants shining above their bed at three in the morning.
The warm mode is what keeps the lamp on the bedside table. It’s the light you leave on for a child who doesn’t like the dark, or the one you read by. Buying a projector without it usually means buying a night light as well a month later.
What “USB powered” really means
These lamps run on 5V USB — the same as a phone charger. That gives you four power sources, and it’s worth knowing which you’ll use:
A wall plug — any phone charger you already own. Nothing is included that you need to keep track of.
A laptop — fine for a desk, and it means one cable for the whole setup.
A power bank — this is what makes the lamp portable. Camping, a tent, a room with no free socket.

What to check before you buy
Is the second mode a warm light or just a dimmer? A dimmed projection is not a night light.
Can you adjust the brightness? Not all of them can. It’s the difference between a lamp you can fall asleep under and one you can’t.
Cable or battery? USB is cheaper and never runs out; rechargeable moves room to room.
Can you aim it? A flexible neck or an adjustable head decides whether the image lands on the ceiling or halfway up the wall.
