Galaxy Projector as a Christmas Gift: the Honest Guide
Who it suits, who it really doesn’t, what to check before you buy — and the date after which it will not arrive in time.
Start with the date, because nobody else will tell you
Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday, so the last useful delivery day is Wednesday 23 December.
We ship free with Royal Mail Tracked and quote 4–10 working days. Counting the slow end of that back from the 23rd:
Order by Wednesday 9 December and it should arrive with room to spare.
Between Wednesday 9 December and Wednesday 16 December it will probably arrive — but we won’t promise it.
After Wednesday 16 December, buy it on the high street instead. A present that lands on the 27th isn’t a present.
We’re a small shop, not a next-day warehouse. You can order this in October and have it wrapped, or you can order it on the 20th from somebody faster — both are reasonable, and we would rather you knew which one you were doing.
Who this is a good gift for
Teenagers. The single best match. A bedroom is the one space a teenager controls, and this changes it completely for under £20. It photographs well, which matters more than adults think.
Children who don’t like a dark room. The 2-in-1 models are a warm night light first and a projector second. The ceiling full of stars is the bit they ask for; the steady glow is the bit that actually helps.
Someone with a gaming setup or a desk. It does the same job as an LED strip for about the same money, and looks less like every other setup.
A first flat. Renters can’t change the lighting. This plugs in.
And who it isn’t for
It is an object that has to sit somewhere visible and be plugged into something. For a person who dislikes clutter, or who is barely in their bedroom, it becomes a drawer item by February.
It is also not a replacement for a lamp. It does not light a room for reading. If someone needs light, buy a light.
And if the person specifically wants Bluetooth, an app or a remote, ours don’t do any of that — ours change pattern by swapping a physical film. Better to know now than on the 25th.
Four things worth checking on any listing
1. How it changes pattern. Most projectors at this price use interchangeable films. More films means more skies, and it’s the main thing separating a £15 model from a £32 one.
2. Whether it has a plain night-light mode. A rotating galaxy is lovely for twenty minutes. For sleeping, you want a steady warm glow on its own button.
3. Focus. The commonest complaint in this entire category is a blurry ceiling. An adjustable focus ring is what fixes it, and plenty of listings don’t have one.
4. How it’s powered. USB is what you want — a phone plug, a laptop, a power bank, a car socket. Anything needing a special adapter is a gift with homework attached.
What to buy, by what you want to spend
Secret Santa and stocking fillers — under £20
Mini USB Galaxy Star Projector Night Light - 360° Adjustable Starry Sky Lamp for Bedroom and Car — £14.99
The smallest and cheapest real projector we sell. A head that turns through 360°, runs off any USB plug, and it’s the one we’d put in a Secret Santa under a £20 cap without it feeling like a token.
LED Planet Projector Night Light - 360° Rotating Star and Planet Pattern Lamp, Ideal Gift for Room Decor — £16.99
Earth, Mars and Saturn turning slowly across a ceiling. The one to pick for a child who is into space rather than into aesthetics.
USB Starry Sky Projector Light - Dual-Mode Adjustable Car and Bedroom Ambient Night Light — £18.25
Warm ambient glow or a starry sky, adjustable brightness, adjustable angle. The most useful of the three if the gift is for a bedroom that gets used every night.
A main present — £20 to £35
2-in-1 Rocket Shape Galaxy Star Projector and Night Light - Adjustable Focus USB Ambient Lamp for Car and Bedroom — £20.61
Rocket-shaped, with an adjustable focus ring for genuinely sharp stars. It looks like a gift sitting on a shelf, which matters when it comes out of the wrapping.
2-in-1 LED Galaxy Star Projector Night Light - USB Rechargeable Starry Sky Ambient Lamp for Bedroom and Party — £32.15
Our fullest version: projector and night light on one button, and available with up to 24 projection films so the ceiling doesn’t repeat itself. This is the one to pick if it’s the only present.
An add-on for someone who already owns one
Interchangeable Projection Discs for Galaxy Star Projector - 6 Pack, Space and Ocean Themes (Projector Not Included) — £10.08
Six extra projection films, space and ocean. Under £11, and it’s the rare top-up gift that gets used — but check the films fit their projector before you buy.

Questions people ask
What is the last day to order a galaxy projector for Christmas in the UK?
From us, order by Wednesday 9 December 2026 to be safe. We ship free with Royal Mail Tracked and quote 4–10 working days; counting the slow end back from the last delivery day before Christmas, which is Wednesday 23 December, gives the 9th. Between the 9th and Wednesday 16 December it will probably still arrive, but we would not promise it. After the 16th, buy locally instead — a present that turns up on the 27th is not a present.
Is a galaxy projector a good Christmas gift?
For the right person, yes: teenagers decorating a bedroom, children who do not like a dark room, anyone with a gaming setup or a flat they are trying to make feel like theirs. It is a strong gift for someone whose room matters to them. It is a weak gift for someone who is rarely in their bedroom, or who dislikes clutter — it is an object that has to live somewhere visible.
What is a reasonable amount to spend?
Under £20 covers a real projector, not a token one, which is why these work well for Secret Santa and stocking fillers. Above about £30 you are paying for more projection films and a brighter lamp rather than a fundamentally different object. Spending £60 on this category is rarely money well spent.
Are these suitable for young children?
As a night light, yes — the 2-in-1 models give a warm steady glow with no moving projection, which is what helps a child sleep. The projection itself is for before sleep rather than through the night. Check the age guidance on the listing, and note that the small projection films are not toys: they are the part to keep away from a toddler.
Do they need batteries, and will I have to buy anything else?
No batteries. Every projector we sell runs from USB — a phone charger, a laptop, a power bank or a car socket. Most people already have a spare plug. If you are giving it to a child, pairing it with a plug they can keep in their room makes it usable on Christmas morning rather than three days later.
Do these connect to a phone or play music?
Ours do not. Everything in our range changes pattern by swapping a physical projection film rather than through an app, and none of them have a speaker or a remote. If someone specifically wants Bluetooth and app control, buy a different kind of projector — we would rather say so now than have it opened on the 25th.
